Walter Adams (athlete)

Walter Adams (born March 15, 1945 in Wasseralfingen ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the Federal Republic of Germany - was successful as an 800-meter runner in the 1960s and 1970s .

In medium-distance seasons he was involved in two world records in 1966 and 1968 ; In 1970 he equalized the European record in the 800-meter run (1: 44.9 min on July 16, 1970 in Stuttgart ) in the international match against the USA . At the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City , Adams took a very good fourth place. He also took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich .

At the European Indoor Games in 1969 he won the gold medal with the 3-by-1000-meter relay . He was German champion of the Federal Republic in the 800 meter run in 1968, 1969 and 1972.

On November 27, 1968, he was awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf for his athletic achievements.

Walter Adams belonged to the sports club SV Salamander Kornwestheim (coach: Hans-Georg Rödel ). During his competition time he was 1.73 m tall and weighed 65 kg.
