Freebird Games is an independent game developer company founded in 2007 by Kan "Reives" Gao. You create history-themed games for Windows with RPG Maker XP . They became known for their commercial game To the Moon .

history

Freebird Games started out as a personal project of Kan Gao. The team later grew and now consists of himself, Jessica M. Vázquez, James Q. Zhang and Gabriela A.

They started with their project Quintessence: The Blighted Venom , an on-going free computer role-playing game series. Eleven chapters have been published so far, the last chapter appeared on October 11, 2009. On May 6, 2008 they released their first full game, The Mirror Lied . It is described as an abstract short story. Your second game Do You Remember My Lullaby? was released on December 21, 2008. On June 20, 2009, they released a demo of an upcoming game called Lyra's Melody - The Song She Whispered to Me . Her first commercial release, To the Moon , which came out on November 1, 2011, was a commercial success and received positive reviews. On March 28, 2012, the official German translation of the game was published. The game includes a theme song titled Everything's Alright by Laura Shigihara , who also recorded a song for Quintessence: The Blighted Venom . To the Moon was released on Steam on September 8, 2012 and for the first time in French and Italian.

On November 7, 2014, a short story called A Bird Story , set in the same world as To The Moon , was published. This is the prelude to the second episode in the To the Moon series. The correct sequel to To the Moon , entitled Finding Paradise , was released on December 14, 2017. The game contains two theme songs; "Wish My Life Away" by Laura Shigihara and "Every Single Memory" by RIOTxRYKER.

In May 2018 it was announced that an animation film adaptation of To The Moon is currently in development. Gao is involved in writing the script. The film will be a joint project in which Japanese companies are mainly responsible for the production and the Chinese company Ultron Event Horizon mainly for the financing. It is not known which Japanese companies will produce and animate the film; Gao assured, however, that these are large companies. The exact budget for the film is unknown, but is believed to be above the budget for the Japanese animated film Your Name. - Yesterday, today and forever lie.

In March 2019, the development of a new game was announced, entitled Impostor Factory , which will be released in 2020. It is currently unknown whether this will be the third episode in the To the Moon series or a standalone game.
