Laura Shigihara

Laura Shigihara is a computer game music composer and singer-songwriter .

She has composed pieces of music for over 25 computer games, and gained public fame as the main composer and sound designer for the tower defense computer game Plants versus Zombies . She is half Japanese and in addition to the English version of the song Zombies on Your Lawn , she also sang the Japanese version of the song Uraniwa ni Zombies ga for the game. Shigihara also recorded vocals for the singing Sunflower pet in World of Warcraft : Cataclysm. She can also be heard in Akira Yamaoka's album Play For Japan , alongside other composers such as Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda .

biography

Shigihara's father is of Japanese descent and her mother is French-American. Shigihara grew up in the United States and Japan. She practiced the piano for 11 years and taught herself to play guitar and drums. She composed her own computer game music and recorded her own songs. After a friend gave her works to record labels in Japan, Shigihara was offered record deals, which she declined for personal reasons.

Shortly after she returned to the United States, Shigihara took a job as a sound director at a company that produces audio talk shows and English learning materials through Apple Japan. She has also released a studio album and composed her first computer game soundtrack for a small casual game called Wobbly Bobbly . She was so excited to be working on a computer game that she offered her work for free. The company liked their job and paid them to create music for the following projects. From then on, she built her portfolio and has since worked on over 25 published titles, including Plants versus Zombies , Ghost Harvest , World of Warcraft , Minecraft and To the Moon . In her spare time, she also developed a music-based role-playing game called Melolune and is on Akira Yamaoka's iTunes album Play for Japan , where she contributed a song of her own called Jump . On April 15, 2012 her single "Cube Land" was released. In May 2017, the computer game Rakuen she developed was published.
