Yoon Jeong-hee (born July 30, 1944 in Kōshū , Zenra-nandō Province, Chōsen Province , then the Japanese Empire , now South Korea ) is a South Korean actress.

biography

Yoon Jeong-hee started her acting career in 1966 when she was selected from 1,200 applicants by Kang Dae-Jin in a nationwide casting. They then received the female lead in his film Cheongchun geukjang (1967; English-language title Sorrowful Youth ), the young of a group volunteers reported that for independence from Japan act. The drama was a great success in South Korea and 270,000 people saw the film in Seoul alone . This was followed by other leading roles in South Korean cinema, mainly in dramas.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Yoon Jeong-hee rose to become one of the leading film actresses in her home country alongside Moon Hee and Nam Jung-hee . To date she has appeared in over 330 films and has received 24 actor awards.

In 1974 she married the well-known pianist Paik Kun-woo , with whom she has a daughter who is a violinist. The couple has lived in France since 1976 . In 1994 she ended her film career with Manmubang by Jong-seon Eom. The drama about the Korean War earned her the Actor Award at the Grand Bell Awards , South Korea's national film award. She turned down further offers of roles. She remained connected to the cinema as a jury member at various film festivals, including that of Pusan (2001). Forty years after her screen debut, she was honored with a special exhibition at the Korean Film Archive in Seoul in 2007 .

In 2010, Yoon Jeong-hee returned to the big screen with the lead role in Lee Chang-dong's Poetry ( Si ). In the drama, she can be seen as a fragile Mija , who cares for her young grandson on her own and takes part in a poetry workshop. At the same time, she is confronted with her Alzheimer's disease and the allegation that her grandson is said to have raped a classmate. Lee Chang-dong wrote the part especially for her.

Poetry premiered at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival , where Yoon Jeong-hee received critical acclaim. She was then traded as a co-favorite on the actor's award, but it was awarded to the French Juliette Binoche ( Copie conforme ). “The character is like me: she is a dreamer, innocent, imaginative, maybe a little eccentric,” says Yoon Jeong-hee, who plans to continue her film career.

In 2019 it became publicly known that she had Alzheimer's disease.
