final
August 27, 2015 at 7:10 PM local time (1:10 PM CEST )
The French defending champion Teddy Tamgho was not among the participants here. He was eligible to start again after a doping ban, but was unable to participate due to an injury. The favorites were the two Americans Christian Taylor - world champion in 2011 and Olympic champion in 2012 - as well as Will Claye - world championship third in 2011 and 2013 , Olympic runner-up in 2012. However, Claye already failed in qualifying. The two-time Cuban runner-up in 2011 and 2013 Pedro Pablo Pichardo and the reigning French European champion Benjamin Compaoré also competed as medal candidates.
The competition picked up speed with good distances from the start. Pichardo advanced 17.52 m, the Portuguese Nelson Évora, runner-up in 2009 , achieved 17.28 m, the American Omar Craddock reached 17.14 m. The Romanian Marian Oprea also exceeded the 17-meter mark with his 17.06 m. In the second round, Taylor jumped 17.49 m and was second. The Russian Ljukman Adams now also exceeded with 17.12 m and was fifth. In lap three he improved further to 17.28 m. But his competitors countered with strong jumps. Évora achieved 17.29 m, that was third place, because Pichardo and Taylor both reached 17.60 m.
In lap five, Craddock ousted the Portuguese Évora from bronze with 17.37 m. The decision was made in the last round, however. Nelson Évora secured the bronze medal with another improvement to 17.52 m. Christian Taylor exceeded the 18-meter mark with 18.21 m and thus achieved a new world high for the year. He was only eight centimeters short of the world record set by the Briton Jonathan Edwards . Pedro Pichardo also managed to improve again with 17.73 m, but it stayed with silver for him. Omar Craddock was fourth, Ljukman Adams was fifth ahead of Marian Oprea.
