Samyr Lainé (born July 17, 1984 in Newburgh , New York ) is a Haitian triple jumper . His personal bests are 17.39 meters outdoors (2009) and 16.91 meters indoors (2010).

Life

He studied until 2006 at the prestigious Harvard University Law and was a roommate of during this time Facebook -Gründers Mark Zuckerberg . Even today (as of July 2012) Laine holds the university records in his discipline outdoors (16.34 m) and in the hall (15.83 m). He then moved to the Graduate School of the University of Texas at Austin , where he earned a Masters in Kinesiology and Sports Management , and finally completed a three-year course at Georgetown University Law Center by 2010 . He also worked at Shearman & Sterling during the summer months .

While studying in Georgetown , he was free from a minor league - baseball coaches trained. In 2007, he represented Haiti, the homeland of his parents, at the Pan American Games in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro , was there but only occupy the tenth place. This was followed by participation in the 2009 World Championships in Berlin with a 29th place and at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha with a 16th place. The 2011 World Championships finished Laine in 19th place. He presented himself much better at his second Pan-American Games, 2011 in Guadalajara : He finished fifth. A little more than four months later, however, he had to make do with 13th and last place at the World Indoor Championships in 2012 in Istanbul . He finished the 2013 World Championships in Moscow with a width of 16.09 meters in penultimate eleventh place. A few weeks later, he reached fifth place at the Francophonie Games in Nice . In March 2014, he missed qualifying for the final at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland .

Nevertheless, Laine has some sporting successes to show. In 2010 he was able to secure the bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayagüez, Puerto Rican , and a year later at the same place at the Central American and Caribbean Championships (the equivalent of the European Championships ) - with a lead of 87 centimeters - win the title. He also qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . There he took eleventh place.
