Shearman & Sterling is an international law firm with 18 offices worldwide that specializes primarily in commercial law , in particular corporate finance , capital markets law and mergers & acquisitions .

history

The firm was founded in 1873 by Thomas Shearman and John William Sterling (1844-1918). Shearman had earned a reputation as a successful litigation attorney , and Sterling had forged extensive relationships between clients and business leaders. Over the years the firm expanded to Europe , the Middle East, Asia and Latin America .

In Germany , the first office was founded in Düsseldorf in 1991 . Further offices in Frankfurt , Munich and Mannheim followed (merger with Schilling Zutt Anschütz 2000). On April 25, 2008 announced Shearman & Sterling, is that the resulting from the merger with Schilling Zutt Anschütz location in Mannheim middle of the year will split off in 2008 and in the future as lawyers Aktiengesellschaft under the name SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz will be active. The offices in Düsseldorf and Munich were closed in 2013.

From 2003 to 2012 the firm sponsored the international finals of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in the USA.
