The men's triple jump at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held on August 23 and 25, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
The German Charles Friedek became world champion . He won before the Bulgarian European Championship third in 1998 Rostislaw Dimitrov . Bronze went to the British world champion from 1995 , vice world champion from 1997 , world championship third from 1993 , Olympic runner-up from 1996 , European champion from 1998 and world record holder Jonathan Edwards .

Wind conditions

The wind hardly affected the competition. There was only one valid jump with a wind support above the permitted value, but it had no meaning.

qualification
August 23, 1999, 6:00 p.m.
39 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 17.00 m. Six athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the six next-placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 16.70 m was enough for the final.
