Athletic career

He celebrated his first international successes in the junior division when he won the silver medal in the triple jump and the bronze medal in the long jump at the CARIFTA Games in Bridgetown in 1989 . After he failed in qualifying in the triple jump at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 1991 , he soon began to establish himself in the adult field. At the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993 , he already finished eleventh in the same discipline. In 1994 he finished second in the long jump at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Paris.

The final breakthrough came Romain finally 1995. It was the first ever medal win at World Athletics Championships for a Dominican athlete. In the qualification Romain had also set a personal best with 17.48 m. His distance from the final is not on the list because of the strong tailwind.

In 1997 he defended his triple jump title at the Central American and Caribbean Championships.
