The 800-meter run for women at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held from August 21 to 24, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city ​​of Seville .

Czech Ludmila Formanová became world champion . She won before the world champion from 1993 , World Cup third from 1997 . Olympic bronze medalists from 1996 and triple African champion ( 1990 / 1993 / 1998 ) Maria Mutola of Mozambique . In 1993 she was also the African champion over 1500 meters .
