  The 800-meter run for women at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held from August 21 to 24, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
Czech Ludmila Formanová became world champion . She won before the world champion from 1993 , World Cup third from 1997 . Olympic bronze medalists from 1996 and triple African champion ( 1990 / 1993 / 1998 ) Maria Mutola of Mozambique . In 1993 she was also the African champion over 1500 meters . Bronze went to the Russian double Olympic champion in 1996 over 800 and 1500 meters Svetlana Masterkowa , who was the reigning European champion over 1500 meters and who won the race over this longer middle distance five days later .

- 2: 19.79 min - Alberta Cape ( Guinea-Bissau ), 2nd run on August 21

The preliminary round was carried out in five runs. The first two athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - and the six fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semi-finals.
