The men's 800-meter race at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held from August 26th to 29th, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
Wilson Kipketer , who started for Denmark and also held the world record, won his third World Cup title in a row . He won Hezekiél Sepeng before the South African 1996 Olympic runner-up . Bronze went to the Algerian Djabir Saïd-Guerni .

The existing world championship record was not set and not improved at these world championships. World champion Wilson Kipketer starting
for Denmark - 32 hundredths of a second above the existing record at the previous World Championships - this time only missed this record by 24 hundredths of a second in the final on August 29th.
Two national records were set.
- Carlos Calvo ( Luxembourg ) - 1: 48.48 min (6th preliminary on August 26th)
- Djabir Saïd-Guerni ( Algeria ) - 1: 44.18 min (final on August 29th)

The preliminary round was carried out in eight runs. The first two athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the eight fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semifinals.
