The men's javelin throw at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held on August 27 and 29, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
The Finn Aki Parviainen became world champion . He won Konstandinos Gatsioudis before the Greek World Cup third in 1997 . The bronze went to the Czech world record holder Jan Železný , who both Olympic Games ( 1992 / 1996 ) as well as World Championships ( 1993 / 1995 won) per two golds and beyond 1988 Olympic silver medalist, 1987 World Cup -Dritter and 1994 European Championship was -Dritter.

qualification
29 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 83.50 m. Three athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the nine next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 81.61 m had to be achieved for the final.
