Aki Parviainen
Aki Parviainen ( Aki Uolevi Parviainen ; born October 26, 1974 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish javelin thrower .
Aki Parviainen was able to set up age group world bests in the javelin throw as a teenager . In 1991 he won bronze at the European Junior Championships. In 1992 he won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships. As an adult, he managed to win the national championship title for six years in a row from 1998 to 2003 in the javelin nation of Finland. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , he finished 5th.
He managed a remarkable series at world championships: in 1995 and 2005 he missed the final fight in ninth place, but in between he finished 8th (1997), 1 (1999), 2 (2001) and 5 (2003). This enabled him to continue the successful series of Finnish javelin throwers in the era of the Czech Jan Železný and the British Steve Backley .
At European Championships, however, he could not shine with 9th place (1998) and 8th place (2002).
His best performance since 1999 is 93.09 m.
