Anderson Peters (born October 21, 1997 in Saint Andrew ) is a Grenadian javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Anderson Peters gained his first international experience at the CARIFTA Games 2012 in Hamilton , where he won the gold medal in the U17 classification with 60.50 m. A year later he won gold in the javelin throw and bronze in the shot put at the Nassau Games . He also finished sixth over 100 meters. In the javelin throw he then took part in the Youth World Championships in Donetsk and finished there with 67.98 m place ninth. He then reached ninth place with 61.44 m at the Pan American Junior Championships in Medellín . In 2014 he won gold in the javelin throw for the third time at the CARIFTA Games in Fort-de-France with a new championship record of 67.67 m, was fourth in the shot put and sixth with the discus. In addition, he was eliminated over 100 meters in the lead. He then won the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships in Morelia with a new championship record of 72.39 m gold.

At the 2015 CARIFTA Games in Basseterre , he won the U20 classification for the first time with 70.09 m. At the Pan American Junior Championships in Edmonton , he won the silver medal with 72.11 m. In 2016 he won the gold medal at the CARIFTA Games in St. George’s with a new national and player record of 78.28 m and took fourth place with the Grenadian 4 x 100 meter relay. He then won the bronze medal behind the Indian Neeraj Chopra and Johan Grobler from South Africa at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with a national record of 79.65 m . In 2017 he qualified for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated from the qualification with 78.99 m . In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and won the bronze medal there with 82.20 m. He then won the silver medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla with 81.80 m and only had to admit defeat to the 2012 Olympic champion, Keshorn Walcott . A week later he won the NACAC Championships in Toronto with a throw on 79.65 m.

On March 29, 2019, Peters improved Grenada's national record in Austin to 86.07 m. He achieved a further increase in this mark on June 5, also in Austin, where he was able to defend his NCAA title from the previous year with 86.62 m . He then won the U23 NACAC championships in Santiago de Querétaro with 81.89 m. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , he won the gold medal with a new Grenadian record of 87.31 m ahead of Keshorn Walcott. He also qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where he surprisingly won the gold medal with 86.89 m in the final and was able to prevail against the favored athletes from Germany and the Estonian Magnus Kirt .

In 2017 Peters was Grenadian champion in javelin throw. He is a student at Mississippi State University in Starkville .
