Seppo Räty

Seppo Henrik Räty (born April 27, 1962 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish athlete.

Seppo Räty was in the world class for ten years after the introduction of the new spear in 1986 and is the one with the most medals at major international events of all modern Finnish javelin throwers .

His career followed that of Arto Härkönen (Olympic champion 1984), outlasted the careers of Tapio Korjus (Olympic champion 1988) and Kimmo Kinnunen (world champion 1991), and ended when the career of Aki Parviainen (world champion 1999) began. These successes of Finnish javelin throwers, to which of course Räty's world championship title from 1987 must be added, came at a time when javelin throwing was dominated by the Czech Jan Železný and the British Steve Backley .

Räty's best performance since 1992 has been 90.60 m. His indoor world best of 81.48 m he set up on March 24, 1990 in Kuopio at the Finnish Throwing Indoor Championships in the third attempt, after which his first two attempts got stuck in the hall roof.

In Finland it in 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1996, won in 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, the Finnish Championship . He belonged to the Tohmajärven Urheilijat association.
