Arto Härkönen

Arto Kalevi Härkönen (born January 31, 1959 in Helsinki ) is a former Finnish javelin thrower .

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the throwers from the Soviet Union and the GDR were missing as a result of the Olympic boycott. The GDR provided the winners at the 1982 European Championships with Uwe Hohn and at the 1983 World Championships with Detlef Michel .

Because of the boycott, the way was now clear for Arto Härkönen. The European championship fifth from 1982 was with 86.76 m Olympic champion ahead of the British David Ottley and Kenth Eldebrink from Sweden.
