Milan Hejduk (born February 14, 1976 in Ústí nad Labem , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player . From 1998 to 2013 he played for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL) on the position of right winger . In his 13 seasons NHL career, he won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2001 and the Maurice Richard Trophy as top scorer in the NHL in 2003 . In November 2011, Hejduk became the franchise's third team captain-Geschichte appointed before his squad number 23 after his career end locked was. At the international level, he won the gold medal with the Czech national team at the 1998 Winter Olympics .

Milan Hejduk began his playing career in the youth teams of HC Teplice before moving to the Czech first division club HC Pardubice in 1992 . For this club he made his debut in the men's team during the 1993/94 season . In the same year he was named Extraliga Rookie of the Year . After his first season in the senior division, the then 18-year-old was selected ( drafted ) in the fourth round of the Québec Nordiques in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft in 87th place . Until 1998 he played for Pardubice in the Extraliga and was able to improve his statistics from year to year.

In the summer of 1998 he moved to North America and immediately made the jump to the NHL. The team that had drafted him had meanwhile moved from Québec to Denver and at the Colorado Avalanche he was able to grow into a star in the shadow of the big stars Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg together with some youngsters like Chris Drury and Adam Deadmarsh . In 2001 he won the Stanley Cup with his team . He had his best season in 2002/03 , when he scored the most goals and dominated the plus / minus rating. When the NHL players went on strike in the 2004/05 season, he returned to HC Pardubice for a year and won the Czech championship .

On January 6, 2018 Hejduk was the team's history for the sixth player whose shirt number in his honor blocked was.

International

Hejduk made his first appearance in the national jersey at the U20 World Cup in 1995 . From 1998 he played in major events in the team of the Czechs , such as the 1998 World Cup , where they won the bronze medal, and the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , where the Czech team won the gold medal. He had other Olympic appearances at the Olympic Winter Games in 2002 and 2006 . In the latter, he again won the bronze medal. He also took part in the 2003 World Cup and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey .

Hejduk is married and has two sons. March 2016 he received the citizenship of the United States .
