Patrik Eliáš (born April 13, 1976 in Třebíč , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player . The left winger played over 1,400 games for the New Jersey Devils in the National Hockey League from 1995 to 2016 and won the Stanley Cup twice with the team . He also scored over 1,000 points in the NHL, holding the Devils franchise records for most goals, assists and points, so the team blocked his jersey number . With the Czech national team he won bronze medals at both world championships and the 2006 Winter Olympics .

Career

Patrik Eliáš began his career at Poldi Kladno and was selected in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft in the second round at position 51 by the New Jersey Devils . However, he played for his home club in the first Czech extra league until 1995, before moving to the Albany River Rats , the farm team of the New Jersey Devils from the AHL , in 1995. In the same year Elias played his first NHL game for the Devils. In the 2000/01 season he collected the most within the team with 96 points and was the player with the best plus / minus statistics in the league.

He won the Stanley Cup twice with New Jersey, in 2000 and 2003.

In the time of the NHL lockout in the 2004/05 season he completed 28 main round games for HC Znojemští Orli and 17 main round games for the Russian team HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk .

Before the 2006/07 season he was named team captain of the Devils, but gave this post to Jamie Langenbrunner in the 2007/08 season . In 2009 and 2012 he won the highest Czech award in ice hockey, the Zlatá hokejka .

During the 2014/15 season Eliáš achieved his 1000th scorer point in the National Hockey League.

In March 2017, Eliáš officially announced the end of his active career. At this point he held the Devils franchise records for most goals (408), assists (617), points (1025) and points in one season (96; 2000/01). At the same time, the New Jersey Devils announced that they would officially block his number 26 shirt in the course of the next season , which also happened on February 25, 2018.

International

Patrik Eliáš completed three games for the Czech national team at the 1998 men's ice hockey world championship and scored one goal.

In 2002 Eliáš played again for the selection of the Czechs at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . In four games he scored one goal and one assist . Eliáš also took part in the World Cup of Hockey and scored three goals and two assists in five games.
