Andrew "Andy" Greene (born October 30, 1982 in Trenton , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League since February 2020 . Prior to that, the defender spent nearly 14 years in the New Jersey Devils organization and led the team as team captain for five years .
Career
Greene began his career in 2002 at the Miami University , where he American US for the RedHawks Hockey Team in the College Football Central Collegiate Hockey Association was active. After he finished his studies in the summer of 2006, he got a contract from the Lowell Devils , a team of the American Hockey League , which act as the farm team of the New Jersey Devils.
In his first year with the Lowell Devils, he had the opportunity to play as a substitute for Johnny Oduya and later Colin White for the New Jersey Devils. In 2007 he was offered a permanent place by the New Jersey Devils. His personally most successful season so far with the Devils was the 2009/10 season , when the defensive player was able to score 39 points in 83 league games.
On an international level, Greene made his debut at the 2010 World Cup , which was his only appearance for the national team of the United States.
Ahead of the start of the 2015/16 season, his tenth wearing the Devils' kit, Greene was named the eleventh team captain in franchise history. He held this office until February 2020, when he was given to the New York Islanders in exchange for David Quenneville and a second-round vote in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft . So Greene left New Jersey after almost 14 years and almost 1,000 games.
