Joshua "Josh" Bailey (born October 2, 1989 in Bowmanville , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League since 2008 .
Career
Josh Bailey began his career as a hockey player in the Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 2005 to 2008, first for the Owen Sound Attack and from 2006 for the Windsor Spitfires . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the first round as the ninth player overall by the New York Islanders , where he then received a three-year contract.
In its rookie year , the center scored 25 scorer points in 68 games in the 2008/09 season , including seven goals. In the following season, however, he managed to improve his statistics significantly. In 73 appearances, Bailey scored 16 goals and a total of 35 scorer points for the Islanders. After an injury at the beginning of the 2010/11 season , he was first sent to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the Islanders' farm team, in the American Hockey League , but returned to the NHL squad after eleven games.
From November 2012 Bailey played due to the lockout in the NHL with the Bietigheim Steelers in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga and scored eleven points in six games.
In the 2016/17 season, the attacker significantly increased his personal statistics by scoring 56 points in 82 games. Already after about two thirds of the following season he exceeded this value and also kept an average point of over 1.0 per game, so that the Islanders equipped him with a new five-year contract in February 2018. This should bring him an average annual salary of 5 million US dollars. He finished the 2017/18 season with 71 points, making him the third-best scorer for the Islanders. He also made his debut for the senior national team at the 2018 World Cup , where he finished fourth with the team.
