He then signed an entry-level contract with the New York Islanders in May 2011 .

Personal
In 2007 Cizikas injured an opponent at a Rugby -Partie by a tackle so hard on the head that he died a few days later. Doctors then determined that the deceased had suffered a traumatic brain injury two weeks earlier, as a result of which he was not allowed to participate in any sport for at least a year. Although the family of the deceased did not blame him and described the death as an accident, Cizikas was found guilty of negligent homicide in 2009 and given a one-year suspended sentence and 100 hours of community service.
