Noah Dobson (born January 7, 2000 in Summerside , Prince Edward Island ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League since August 2018 and plays for them on the position of defender .
Career
Noah Dobson was born in Summerside and played there in his youth for the Summerside Capitals and the ice hockey team at Bishop's College School , a private school in Lennoxville , Québec . For the season 2015/16 he decided to an unusual for North American players step by writing to the Red Bull Hockey Academy from the Austrian Salzburg moved, one of the EC Red Bull Salzburg related youth organization. After a year in Europe, the Canadian returned to his homeland and joined the Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ) for the 2016/17 season . There he established himself in the following year as an offensive defender, with 69 points after Olivier Galipeau, he became the second best scorer among the defenders in the league. Through his 67 games he also achieved an average point of over 1.0 per game, so that he was included in the First All-Star Team of the LHJMQ. Meanwhile, he won the playoffs for the Coupe du Président with Acadie-Bathurst , as well as the subsequent tournament for the Memorial Cup 2018 , where he was also elected to the All-Star team . Then considered him New York Islanders in the NHL Entry Draft in 2018 in twelfth position. In the 2018/19 season, Dobson took over the position of team captain at the Titan, but was handed over to the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda in January 2019 in exchange for four draft options . With the Huskies, he managed to defend both the Coupe du Président and the Memorial Cup and to be re-elected to the respective All-Star teams . With 29 scorer points from 20 games, he was also honored with the Trophée Guy Lafleur as the most valuable player in the LHJMQ playoffs
After an extremely successful junior career, Dobson switched to the New York Islanders organization for the 2019/20 season, which had already provided him with an entry-level contract in August 2018 . At the Isles , he earned a place in the squad as part of the preparation for the season and thus made his debut in the National Hockey League in October 2019 , where he has been used regularly since then.
International
Dobson gained his first international experience at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2016 , where he finished sixth with the Canada Red team . At U18 level, he then took part in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2017 , in which the Canadian selection won the gold medal. He made his debut for the Canadian U20 national team as part of the 2019 U20 World Cup , which again finished the team in sixth place.
