Devon Toews (born February 21, 1994 in Abbotsford , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League since April 2016 and for their farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League is used.

Career

Devon Toews was born in Abbotsford and played in his youth for the Fraser Valley Bruins , among others , before moving to the Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) for the 2011/12 season. In the BCHL, which is the second highest junior league in the region under the Western Hockey League , he recorded 29 points in 54 games in his debut season and was consequently elected to the league's all-rookie team . The following year he won the playoffs for the Fred Page Cup with the Eagles , while he was personally named the best defender and was voted into the First All-Star Team of the Coastal Conference . Toews then switched to the US university sport and thus to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), where he henceforth took part in the game operations of ECAC Hockey with the team from Quinnipiac University . After the 2013/14 season, he was also selected in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft to 108th by the New York Islanders . For the time being, however, the Canadian was active in college sports for two more years, where he won the ECAC championship with the team in 2016 and was personally appointed to the league's Second All-Star Team .

Finally, Toews signed an entry-level contract with the New York Islanders in April 2016 and was then used with their farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League (AHL). There he recorded 45 points in 76 games in his first professional season, took part in the AHL All-Star Classic and was elected to the AHL All-Rookie Team at the end of the season . As a result, his development was set back due to a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the second half of the 2017/18 season. Nevertheless, he was appointed to the Islanders' squad for the first time in December 2018 and made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) a little later .
