Ross Johnston (born February 18, 1994 in Charlottetown , Prince Edward Island ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League since March 2015 and plays for them on the position of the left winger . Johnston embodies the role of enforcer , which has now become rare .
Career
Johnston spent his junior years until the beginning of the 2011/12 season with various junior teams in the province of Prince Edward Island , in whose capital Charlottetown he was born. After the election by the Moncton Wildcats in the Entry Draft of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec in summer 2011, the winger moved to the league and was part of the team until summer 2013. He then moved to league rivals Tigres de Victoriaville , where he also spent a season as in the 2014/15 season with the Charlottetown Islanders .
After the attacker was always disregarded in the NHL Entry Draft , he was still signed by the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League in March 2015 . At the end of the 2014/15 season, Johnston then made his professional debut with New York's farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League . At the Sound Tigers, the offensive player was mainly in the squad in the following three seasons. However, he also made his debut for the Islanders in the NHL in the 2015/16 season . Further missions followed in the course of the 2017/18 season . After the four-year contract extension in the summer of 2018, the Canadian has been part of the New York NHL squad since the beginning of the 2018/19 season , but is only used irregularly there due to his limited skills as an enforcer .
