Jordan Leslie Eberle (born May 15, 1990 in Regina , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League since June 2017 and plays for them in the position of right winger . He had previously spent seven years with the Edmonton Oilers . With the Canadian national team , Eberle won the gold medal at the 2015 World Cup .
Career
Eberle played until 2006 at the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame before joining the Regina Pats from the Western Hockey League for the 2006/07 season. There he was the team's top scorer with 28 goals in his rookie season . In the following season, the center increased its offensive yield by 20 points. In addition to being invited to the CHL Top Prospects Game during the season, he was elected to the WHL East First All-Star Team at the end of the season and was awarded the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy . In the summer of 2008 he was then selected in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers in 22nd place. Nevertheless, Eberle initially stayed in the Canadian Junior League and missed his personal record only by a single, although he played nine games less. Since the Pats missed the playoffs at the end of the regular season, the Oilers brought him to their farm team , the Springfield Falcons from the American Hockey League, at the end of the season . There he made a good impression with nine scorer points in as many games. Nevertheless, he returned to Regina in autumn 2009 for his final junior year. In the 2009/10 season Eberle achieved a record of 106 points scorer in the regular season and was only surpassed by Brandon Kozun in the league . His strong performances with the Regina Pats meant that he made the leap into the NHL roster of the Edmonton Oilers for the 2010/11 season .
Eberle spent the following seven seasons in the Oilers' squad and could only meet the expectations placed on him with exceptions. Already in the 2011/12 season he set a personal record with 76 points, which he did not even come close to in the following five years. In June 2017, the Oilers separated from the Canadian and transferred him to the New York Islanders in exchange for Ryan Strome .
He signed a new five-year contract with the Islanders in June 2019, which should earn him an average annual salary of $ 5.5 million.
International
On an international level, Eberle is one of the most successful Canadian players between 2008 and 2010. In 2007 he played for his home country for the first time at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament , but remained there without points and the team missed the desired medal win. In 2008 Eberle ran at the U18 Junior World Championships in Kazan, Russia . There he won the gold medal with the team, as well as a year later at the U20 World Junior Championship in Ottawa . At the U20 Junior World Championship 2010 , which was held in his hometown, among other things, it was enough to win the silver medal after a final defeat against arch-rivals USA. However, Eberle was named the most valuable player and best striker, elected to the all-star team of the tournament and top scorer along with the Swede André Petersson . Eberle was appointed to the squad of the Canadian selection for the 2010 Ice Hockey World Championship and was used in four matches. The team failed in the quarter-finals against Russia .
This was followed by nominations for the World Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013, before he and the team won the gold medal at the 2015 World Cup .
