Ryan Edward Strome (born July 11, 1993 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League since November 2018 and plays for them on the position of the center . His brother Dylan is also a hockey player.
Career
Strome was selected eighth in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection by the Barrie Colts , for whom he was on the ice in the Ontario Hockey League in the first half of the 2009/10 season . In early 2010, he moved to the Niagara IceDogs as part of a transfer in which the Colts signed NHL defender Alex Pietrangelo . In the 2010/11 season he was the third best scorer in the OHL with 106 points from 65 games, although he missed some games due to an injury. After the defeat of the IceDogs in the playoff finals of the Eastern Conference, Strome was nominated for the Second All-Star team of the OHL.
In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , Strome was drafted fifth by the New York Islanders . In preparation for the 2013/14 season , Strome was first in the extended circle of the NHL squad, but was given to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , the farm team in the American Hockey League . In the middle of the season, however, he was appointed to the NHL squad and subsequently played 37 games in the AHL and in the NHL. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season , he was a permanent member of the Islanders' squad for the following three seasons, before being handed over to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Jordan Eberle in June 2017 .
With the Canadians, the striker completed his best season - measured in points - since the 2014/15 season. However, the up-and-coming team missed the playoffs, and after Strome had only scored two scorer points in the first quarter of the season , he was transferred to the New York Rangers in November 2018 in exchange for Ryan Spooner . There he achieved by far his best personal statistic to date with 59 scorer points in the 2019/20 season , while at the same time he became the second best preparer of his team after Artemi Panarin with 41 assists .
