Christopher James "Chris" Kreider (born April 30, 1991 in Boxford , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League since April 2012 .
Career
Chris Kreider began his career as a hockey player in the high school team of the Masconomet Regional Chieftains , for which the winger was active from 2005 to 2007. In the following two seasons, Kreider went on the ice for the elite high school Phillips Academy team . There he scored 41 scorer points in 24 games in his debut season; In his second season, the American contributed 56 scorer points in 26 games. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in the first round as a total of 19th player by the New York Rangers . First, the winger attended Boston College , for which he first played in the 2009/10 season in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . With his college team, he won the Hockey East championship and the NCAA straight away in his rookie year . Two years later he was able to repeat this success with Boston College and was elected to the Second All-Star Team of Hockey East.
As a result, Kreider signed a three-year entry-level contract with the New York Rangers on April 10, 2012 . Just six days later he made his first appearance in the NHL in the play-off game against the Ottawa Senators . He scored his first goal in the sixth game in the series when he scored the winning goal in a 3-2 win over the Senators. He scored a total of seven points in 18 play-off games.
In the following two seasons, however, Kreider was only in the squad of the Hartford Wolf Pack , the farm team of Rangers from the American Hockey League . In the course of the season he was appointed to the Rangers' NHL squad. On November 30, 2013, the rookie scored his first NHL hat trick against the Vancouver Canucks .
In February 2020, Kreider signed a new seven-year contract in New York that is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 6.5 million from the start of the 2020/21 season.
International
For the USA , Kreider took part in the junior division of the 2010 U20 World Junior Championship , where he and his team became world champions. He contributed to this success with six goals and an assist in seven games. He won the bronze medal with his team at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2011 .
In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad for the first time at the 2010 World Cup in Germany . In this he was on the ice in all six games of his team, scored a goal and gave an assist. He also represented the USA at the 2011 World Cup in Slovakia . A bronze medal at the 2018 World Cup followed seven years later .
