Cleistocactus plagiostoma is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet plagiostoma means 'with a crooked mouth'.

description

Cleistocactus plagiostoma grows shrubby with upright to ascending shoots branching at the base and reaches heights of up to 1.5 meters with diameters of 5 to 7 centimeters. There are 10 to 15 low, wavy ribs . The areoles on it are close together. The straight thorns are almost black. The 1 to 5 awl central spines are 1 to 3 inches long. The 12 to 16 radial spines are needle-like and 4 to 7 millimeters long.

The somewhat zygomorphic , intensely purple flowers are up to 8 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cleistocactus plagiostoma is common in the Peruvian region of Cajamarca at altitudes of 2000 to 2200 meters. It was first described as Cereus plagiostoma in 1913 by Friedrich Karl Johann Vaupel . David Richard Hunt placed it in 1997 in the genus Cleistocactus .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
