Jeff Gorton

Jeff Gorton (born April 27, 1968 ) is an American ice hockey official . Since July 2015 he has been the General Manager of the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League (NHL).

Career

Jeff Gorton graduated from Springfield College with a degree in sports management in 1993 and then started working in the public relations department of the Boston Bruins . In October 1994 he was promoted to Director of Scouting there before being appointed Assistant to the General Manager in 1999. With the dismissal of General Manager Mike O'Connell , he took over his position on an interim basis from March to July 2006. During this time, he was responsible, among other things, for the transfer of Andrew Raycroft to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Tuukka Rask . As the successor to O'Connell, however, Peter Chiarelli was introduced in the episode , so that Gorton worked as an assistant again and finally left the organization after the 2006/07 season.

Gorton then moved to the New York Rangers , where he worked for four years as Scout or Director of Player Personnel , before he was promoted to Assistant General Manager in the 2011/12 season. The American held this position for another four years until Glen Sather resigned in July 2015 and Gorton took over as the new General Manager.

Gorton is married and has two children.
