Juerg Schmidli

Jürg Schmidli (born February 19, 1956 in Männedorf , Canton of Zurich , Switzerland ) is a Swiss vascular and cardiac surgeon and professor at the University of Bern . He was President of the Swiss and the European Society for Vascular Surgery.

Life

Jürg Schmidli passed his Matura at the Sarnen College in 1976 , passed the state examination at the University of Zurich in 1982 and spent a research stay at the HMRI (Huntington Medical Research Institutes) , Pasadena , California (USA) from 1984 to 1985 as a postdoc fellow . In 1987 he received his doctorate , in 1994 he was qualified as an FMH specialist in general surgery , in 1999 as a specialist in cardiac and thoracic vascular surgery and also passed the European specialist examination for vascular surgery (FEBVS). Schmidli has been head of vascular surgery in Bern since 1999. In 2005 Schmidli completed his habilitation at the University of Bern. Since 2008 he has been chief physician for vascular surgery and deputy clinic director of the University Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery at Inselspital Bern. In 2010 he was appointed Associate Professor and in 2015 Associate Professor for Vascular Surgery at the University of Bern.

Act

His medical and scientific specialty is the surgery of complex vascular diseases. These primarily include operations on the entire main artery as well as on its supra-aortic and visceral branches, catheter-supported endovascular therapy of enlargement and dissections of the aorta, hybrid operations, supply of vascular and prosthesis infections, extremity reperfusion in acute ischemia, organ protection, use of prosthesis material made from biological tissue , Treatment of refractory high blood pressure with carotid stimulators.

Schmidli has been training prospective vascular surgeons on phantom models in special courses run by the Vascular International Foundation for years. In this simulator training, operations can be safely practiced over and over again. It supports patient protection measures and publicly opposes the unjustified use of operations.
