Kyle Dubas (born November 29, 1985 in Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey official . Since May 2018 he has been the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs from the National Hockey League (NHL).

Career

Kyle Dubas began his career in his hometown with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds , he worked for the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) team as a teenager and subsequently took on a number of tasks, for example as a scout . At the same time, he studied sports management at Brock University and was licensed as a player's consultant by the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) after completing his studies . He then worked for Uptown Sports Management from 2006 to 2011 , where he represented professional players such as Kyle Clifford and Andrew Desjardins .

For the 2011/12 season, Dubas was appointed as the new General Manager of Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, with the Canadian becoming the second youngest general manager in OHL history at the age of 25. In his three years as manager of the greyhounds he ensured, among other things, the engagement of Sheldon Keefe as head coach and won the Bumbacco Trophy as the best team in the West Division with the team in the 2013/14 season .

In July 2014, Dubas turned pro when he was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as assistant to general manager Dave Nonis . At the same time, he took over the position of general manager for their farm team , the Toronto Marlies , in the American Hockey League (AHL), and installed Sheldon Keefe there as head coach the following year. Dubas kept his position at the Maple Leafs under the new General Manager Lou Lamoriello , who took over the sporting direction in summer 2015. Lamoriello signed a three-year contract and should pave the way for his successor during this time, so that he announced in April 2018, as expected, that he was leaving his position. A little later, the Leafs announced that Dubas would succeed him, at which point he became the league's second youngest general manager after John Chayka . A little later, the Toronto Marlies won the 2018 AHL playoffs and thus the Calder Cup under his leadership .

In 2015 Dubas was listed in the Forbes 30 Under 30 in the Sports category.
