Kyle Clifford (born January 13, 1991 in Ayr , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League since February 2020 . Previously, Clifford played 10 years for his draft club, the Los Angeles Kings . These won wingers in the years 2012 and 2014 the Stanley Cup .
Career
Clifford first played in the 2006/07 season with the Cambridge Hawks before he was selected by the Barrie Colts in the second round of the 2007 OHL Priority Selection in 37th place . For the Colts he was active in the following three playing years.
After he had signed an entry contract with the Los Angeles Kings in September 2009 , who had previously selected him in the second round in the NHL Entry Draft 2009 in 35th place, he received some appearances in the American Hockey League with the Manchester Monarchs in the spring of 2010 . The Monarchs were the Kings' farm team in the American Hockey League at the time. For the 2010/11 season Clifford received a regular place in the NHL squad of the Los Angeles Kings. With the team he then won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014 .
After ten years in the organization of the Kings, Clifford and goalkeeper Jack Campbell were handed over to the Toronto Maple Leafs in February 2020 . In return, Los Angeles received Trevor Moore , a third-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2020 and a conditional third-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2021 . In addition, the Kings continue to pay half of Clifford's salary.
International
Clifford represented his home country Canada at the 2009 U18 World Junior Championship . He finished fourth with the team. In six tournament games he remained pointless and received 16 penalty minutes.
