Justin Holl (born January 30, 1992 in Tonka Bay , Minnesota ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL) since July 2016, where he plays the position of defender .
Career
Justin Holl played as a youth for Minnetonka High School in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). After some games for the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League (USHL) Holl was considered in the NHL Entry Draft 2010 in the second round in 54th position by the Chicago Blackhawks .
He then played for the University of Minnesota in the leagues of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), from 2010 to 2013 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and in the 2013/14 season in the Big Ten Conference (B1G) . During the 2014/15 season he was on the ice for the Indy Fuel in the ECHL and the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Since 2015 he has been active for the Toronto Marlies in the AHL and one of the team's assistant captains. In July 2016 he received an entry level contract from the Toronto Maple Leafs .
In late January 2018, he was named to the Maple Leafs squad and made his NHL debut on January 31, 2018 in a 5-0 home win over the New York Islanders , scoring his first goal in the NHL. He is after Ron Wilson - in the 1977/78 season - the second defender of the Maple Leafs, who succeeded. In the following game at the New York Rangers , Holl was able to score again. In the history of the NHL, he is only the sixth defender to score a goal in each of his first two NHL games. At the end of the 2017/18 season he won the AHL playoffs for the Calder Cup with the Marlies . He then established himself in the roster of the Maple Leafs and has since been used regularly in the NHL.
