Pawel Andrejewitsch Butschnewitsch ( Russian Павел Андреевич Бучневич ; born April 17, 1995 in Tscherepowez ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been playing for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League on the position of the left winger since October 2016 .
Career
Butschnewitsch spent his junior years in the offspring of Severstal Tscherepowez . For his youth team Almas Tscherepowez he ran from 2011 on in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League . In the 2012/13 season he made his debut in the first team in the Continental Hockey League , as the club had secured its services through the KHL Junior Draft 2012 . In the 2013 NHL Entry Draft , the Russian was selected in the third round in 75th position by the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Butschnewitsch stayed with his regular club until December 2015, before he moved to the SKA Saint Petersburg within the KHL and ended the 2015/16 season there.
Following this, the attacker was signed by the New York Rangers in May 2016 after rejecting a contract extension with SKA in March, with whom he made his NHL debut at the beginning of the 2016/17 season .
In July 2019, Butnevich signed a new two-year contract in New York that is expected to earn him an average annual salary of $ 3.25 million.
International
For his home country, Butschnewitsch played in the junior division at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 , the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 , the U18 World Junior Championships in 2013 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2014 and 2015 . The striker made his debut for the men's national team in 2014 as part of the Euro Hockey Tour .
