Anthony "Tony" DeAngelo (* 24. October 1995 in Sewell , New Jersey ) is an American ice hockey player who, since June 2017 the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League is under contract and for those on the position of the defender plays .

Career

DeAngelo first played during his junior years between 2010 and 2011 for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the United States Hockey League . The attacking defender then moved to the Ontario Hockey League , where he played for the Sarnia Sting until January 2015 . During the 2014/15 season , he moved to league rivals Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds . DeAngelo completed the 2012/13 , 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons as defender with the most assists during the four years in the OHL . In addition, there were most scorer points in the 2013/14 game years . He achieved this in the 2014/15 season, as well as most goals. He also won the Max Kaminsky Trophy and the CHL Defender of the Year award .

After DeAngelo had already been selected in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft 2014 in 19th place by the Tampa Bay Lightning and they had signed him in December 2014, the defender switched to the professional camp for the Syracuse Crunch for the 2015/16 season . These acted as Tampa's farm team in the American Hockey League . DeAngelo played 69 games for the Crunch during the season and collected 43 points scorer. In June 2016, the American was transferred to the Arizona Coyotes , who in return gave the Lightning a second-round vote in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . The Coyotes also transferred the defender to the AHL with the Tucson Roadrunners at the beginning of the 2016/17 season . In November, however, he was appointed to the Arizona's NHL squad for the first time and also scored his first goal on his debut.

In June 2017, DeAngelo and a first-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2017 were given to the New York Rangers , who in return sent Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta to Arizona. With the Rangers, he was used exclusively in the NHL for the first time in the 2018/19 season and recorded 30 points scorer in 61 games. In the following year, he increased this performance significantly to 53 points from 68 games, placing him among the five defensive players with the highest attacking power in the league.

International

For his home country, DeAngelo was on the ice at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 and the U20 World Junior Championships 2015 in Canada . He could not win a medal in either competition. As part of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, he reached six assists in four missions. At the U20 World Cup, the defender was able to contribute two goals and a template to reach fifth place in five tournament appearances.
