Tackling ( English for fighting , attacking ) means in football to separate an opponent robustly but fairly from the ball; to which belongs Grätschschritt or specific slides across the pitch ( English sliding tackling ) to block the ball wegzuspitzeln or sideways him the ball leading opponent according to the rules to decrease.

In the sports hall variant, futsal , tackles on the man are generally rated as a foul .

Since today's football rules were largely developed in England , many terms from English have been adopted by German football, including the terms pressing or kick and rush .
