Pascal Dupuis (born April 7, 1979 in Laval , Québec ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 968 games in the National Hockey League . He spent a large part of it with the Pittsburgh Penguins , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2009 .

Career

The 1.83 m tall winger began his professional career with the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda in the Canadian junior league QMJHL . During the 1997/98 season he moved to league rivals Cataractes de Shawinigan . In August 2000, the left-handed shooter was finally committed undrafted by the Minnesota Wild , who first used him in their farm team , the Cleveland Lumberjacks , in the International Hockey League .

From the 2001/02 season Dupuis was part of the permanent staff of the Wild, even after the lockout in the 2004/05 season , which he spent at the Swiss second division club HC Ajoie , he initially stayed in Minnesota. After 48 games in the 2006/07 season, the Wild finally transferred the attacker in exchange for Adam Hall to the New York Rangers, who gave him to the Atlanta Thrashers only a few days later for Alex Bourret .

On February 26, 2008 Pascal Dupuis moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins , with whom he was able to reach the final of the Stanley Cup , the North American ice hockey championship, in the same year . The Penguins lost this, however, with 2: 4 wins against the Detroit Red Wings . A year later they repeated the entry into the finals and they won the final series against the same opponent with 4: 3 victories.

In November 2014 Dupuis was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism , due to which he did not play a game in the 2014/15 season. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, the Canadian seemed to have overcome the disease and made 18 appearances by December 2015 before surprisingly announced the end of his career two days after his last game. He and his treating doctor justified this step with regard to his long-term health, which would probably be affected if he continued to exercise at the highest level.

At the end of the 2015/16 season, the Penguins again won the Stanley Cup and also had Dupuis' name engraved on the trophy, despite having only played 18 games in the regular season.
