Career
The 1.98 m tall defender began his career with the Calgary Hitmen in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League before he was selected ( drafted ) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft as 27th in the first round by the Capitals .
First, the left shooter was used by the Hershey Bears , a Washington farm team in the AHL , against the New Jersey Devils Schultz finally gave his NHL debut for the Capitals on December 22, 2006. After four games with the capital city, the defender returned to the Hershey Bears, but he made a total of 38 NHL appearances during the season .
From the 2007/08 season , Schultz was a permanent member of the Washington Capitals. In July 2013, the Capitals paid out his contract early (buy out) . A few days later, he signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings . There he was not used for the time being and was sent to the Manchester Monarchs in the American Hockey League in September 2013 . With the Monarchs, he spent the entire regular season and also completed two play-off games before he was appointed to the NHL squad of the Kings for the Stanley Cup play-offs and had seven play-off appearances there. At the request of the Los Angeles Kings, his name was also engraved on the Stanley Cup , which the team won that year - it failed to meet the criteria for automatic consideration.
With the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Schultz returned to the Manchester Monarchs squad and won the Calder Cup again at the end of the season . After the 2015/16 season, the defender did not receive a new contract in Los Angeles and therefore joined the Anaheim Ducks as a free agent in July 2016 . There he was only used with the San Diego Gulls and signed a contract with them in July 2017 that was limited to the AHL.
