As part of the plans in the 1920s to turn Williamsburg into a living museum of American colonialism , he was employed by the Perry, Shaw and Hepburn architects from 1927 to 1934 based on old templates and plans (including a hand drawing by Thomas Jefferson ) original place rebuilt. As a key financier of the project took John D. Rockefeller, Jr. on. An attempt was and is being made to reconstruct the historical ambience as realistically as possible. The emergence of new documents about the interior design at the time required several adjustments to the furniture.
