Matti Henrikki Järvinen (born February 18, 1909 in Tampere , † July 22, 1985 in Helsinki ) was a Finnish javelin thrower and from 1930 to 1934 the dominant athlete in this discipline. He won the gold medal at the X Olympic Games in 1932 and set ten recognized world records. His first world record dates from August 8, 1930 with a width of 71.57 m, his last record dates from June 18, 1936 with a width of 77.23 m. Matti Järvinen was European champion in javelin throwing in 1934 and 1938 .

Matti's father Verner Järvinen was a discus thrower and won a gold medal and two bronze medals at the 1906 and 1908 Olympics. Matti's brother Akilles Järvinen was a decathlete and won the Olympic silver medal in 1928 and 1932.
