Antti Hermanni Ruuskanen (born February 21, 1984 in Pielavesi ) is a Finnish javelin thrower . In 2012 in London he became an Olympic silver medalist in the javelin throw .

career

In 2003 Ruuskanen won the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in Tampere . In 2005 he won silver at the U-23 European Championships. At the World Athletics Championships 2009 Ruuskanen was with 81.87 m as the sixth, second-best Finn behind Tero Pitkämäki . At the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010 Ruuskanen was a substitute. Teemu Wirkkala , Tero Pitkämäki and Harri Haatainen as well as Tero Järvenpää were given the starting places . Ruuskanen had his greatest success so far at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 , when he achieved the third-best distance behind the surprise winner Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago and the doped Ukrainian Oleksandr Pjatnyzja , and was awarded the silver medal in August 2016 when the Ukrainian was disqualified. Ruuskanens deficit on a possible gold medal was only 46 centimeters. He finished third at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam .

Ruuskan's best recognized by the IAAF is 87.33 m, set up on May 25, 2008 in Kuortane (as of October 2010). On September 16, 2007, however, he already threw 87.88 m in Savonlinna, which puts him in 23rd place in the all-time world best list (as of October 2010). The litter is not recognized by the IAAF because it was thrown across the field.

Antti Ruuskanen is 1.90 m tall and has a competition weight of 85 kg. Until 2010 he was trained by Antero Puranen , since then by Aki Parviainen . He starts for the club Pielaveden Sampo from his birthplace Pielavesi in the landscape Savo . At Finnish championships Antti Ruuskanen took second place in 2009, third place in 2010 and 2011, and in 2012 he won the title for the first time ahead of Ari Mannio and Tero Pitkämäki.
