Héroes del Silencio [ ˈeɾoes ðel siˈlenθjo ] (German: "Heroes of Silence") was a Spanish rock band that was founded in 1984 in Saragossa .

Band history

After the formation, the band quickly developed into one of the most popular rock groups in the region. The first mini album, Héroe de Leyenda , was released in late 1987. The group recorded their first studio album El Mar no Cesa during their tour of Spain in 1988. It was released in 1989 and reached platinum status in Spain after just a few weeks.

The second album Senderos de Traición (produced by Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera ) came into being in early 1990. It was sold over 400,000 times on the Spanish market, but the formation outside the country received little attention. It was not until September 1991 that a German promoter invited the band to play at the Rock Against Racism Festival in Berlin. In early 1992 a European tour and appearances at various festivals followed. This made the band increasingly popular in Germany. The record Senderos de Traición brought the group a platinum record due to 800,000 copies sold in Germany and Switzerland . The song Entre dos Tierras in particular was popular around this time and was a long-running hit in German discos. It reached number 25 in the German charts. During this time the band joined u. a. at the German rock festival Rock am Ring (1993) and Rock im Park (1993).

The third album El Espíritu del Vino (also produced by Phil Manzanera ), which was made in Great Britain , was released in 1993, and various single releases were sponsored and promoted by MTV . Even El Espiritu del Vino brought gold records into Spain and Switzerland.

In January 1995 the fourth and final album Avalancha was recorded in Los Angeles under the direction of producer Bob Ezrin , who had also produced Alice Cooper , Kiss and Pink Floyd . After their world tour to Avalancha , the band released the live album Parasiempre in 1996 , but separated in the same year.

Enrique Bunbury (Enrique Ortiz de Landázuri Izarduy) then started a successful solo career, but mainly in Latin America and Spain. In the hometown of the “heroes”, Saragossa , there is still a bar of the band called Estación del Silencio.

On February 14, 2007 it was announced that the band would return to their original line-up and, ten years after their separation, would go on a farewell tour of Latin America and Spain. One of these concerts took place on October 12, 2007 in Saragossa, the last on October 27, 2007 in Cheste near Valencia. With more than 400,000 concert-goers on nine evenings, the tour passed through the following cities: Guatemala City (Guatemala), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Monterrey and Mexico City (Mexico), Los Angeles (USA) and Saragossa, Seville and Valencia (Spain) . After the tour ended, the live album Tour 2007 was released.

The tune of Entre dos Tierras was the theme tune of the 2014 television series Niederig und Kuhnt - Commissioners determine on the German television station Sat.1 . In addition, Entre dos Tierras is the warm-up music for the Holstein Kiel football club .
