Egil Danielsen

Egil Danielsen (born November 9, 1933 in Hamar ; † July 29, 2019 ) was a Norwegian athlete ( javelin thrower ).

The favorite at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne was the reigning European champion Janusz Sidło from Poland. In 1956, however, the Norwegian Egil Danielsen had thrown the most distances over 80 meters. In the final on November 26, 1956 Sidło reached 79.98 m in the third attempt. But in the fourth attempt Danielsen set a world record, with which he won gold. Here is the series of the world record: 72.60 - 68.49 - 70.75 - 85.71 - 72.60 - 68.86 m. Without the outlier, Danielsen would have finished 6th.

Danielsen was world best of the year in 1956 with his world record and in 1957 with 84.00 m. In 1958 he threw 82.49 m, placing him in second place on the world's best list of the year. He also finished second at the European Championships in 1958 with 78.27 m behind Sidło.

Danielsen only exceeded the 80-meter mark in the years 1956-1958. At the Olympic Games in 1960 he did not survive the qualification with 72.93 m as 17th.

In 1956 he won the Norway Sportsman of the Year election , the Morgenbladet gold medal and the Fearnleys olympiske ærespris .

With a height of 1.82 m, he had a competition weight of 88 kg.
