David Ottley ( David Charles "Dave" Ottley ; born August 5, 1955 in Thurrock ) is a former British javelin thrower . He was 1.88 m tall and had a competition weight of 95 kg.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Ottley did not qualify as 14th.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the throwers from the Soviet Union and the GDR were absent due to the Olympic boycott. The GDR provided the winners at the 1982 European Championships with Uwe Hohn and at the 1983 World Championships with Detlef Michel . Because of the boycott, the way was now clear for the best javelin throwers from non-Eastern Bloc countries. The Finn Arto Härkönen was Olympic champion with 86.76 m ahead of David Ottley with 85.74 m and Kenth Eldebrink from Sweden.

At the Olympic Games in 1988 Ottley reached 11th place in the preliminary fight.

He started for England at the Commonwealth Games. In 1978 in Edmonton he was fifth, in 1982 in Brisbane seventh, and in 1986 in Edinburgh he won gold with 80.62 m.
