Ludmila Formanová (born January 2, 1974 in Čáslav ) is a former Czech middle-distance runner .

The European junior champion from 1993 in the 800-meter run was in a grand final for the first time in the same year when she finished seventh with the Czech 4-by-400-meter relay at the World Championships in Stuttgart . At the European Championships in 1994 she was fifth with the relay.

Ludmila Formanová won her first international medal in the adult class at the 1995 World Indoor Championships . As the last runner of the relay, she secured her team the silver medal behind the Russian team. In the 800 meter run she was fourth in the 1996 European Indoor Championships in 2: 03.74 minutes. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , she was eliminated from the 800 meters in the semifinals, with the relay she reached the final and was seventh.

At the indoor world championships in 1997 she finished fourth with the relay. In the summer at the World Championships in Athens , she finished fifth over 800 meters in 1: 59.52 minutes, with the relay she also reached fifth place.

In 1998 she won the 800 meter run at the European Indoor Championships in 2: 02.30 minutes. Outdoors she was eliminated from the semifinals of the European Championships in Budapest , but reached fifth place again with the relay.

1999 was by far the best year for Ludmila Formanová. At the indoor world championships in Maebashi , she won the second-best indoor time of 1: 56.90 minutes. She was just ahead of Maria de Lurdes Mutola from Mozambique, who crossed the finish line after 1: 57.17 minutes. At the 1999 World Championships in Seville , she ran her personal best of 1: 56.68 min in the final and won the world championship title with four hundredths of a second ahead of Maria Mutola.

At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 2000 Formanová was handicapped by an ankle injury and was eliminated in the run-up to the 800-meter run. In 2002 she made another comeback and finished fourth in 2: 00.23 min at the European Championships in Munich .

With a height of 1.68 m, her competition weight was 60 kg. Her trainer was Jarmila Kratochvílová .
