Halimah Nakaayi (born October 6, 1994 in Mukono ) is a Ugandan middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter run .

Athletic career

Halimah Nakaayi gained her first international experience at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games , where she was disqualified in the 400-meter run in the final. The following year she was eliminated from the World Youth Championships near Lille in 2: 13.50 min in the first round over 800 meters and then won the Commonwealth Youth Games in Douglas in 56.13 min . In addition, she was eliminated there over 800 meters in the first lap. In 2010, she reached the semi-finals of the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where she was disqualified. The following year she was fourth at the Junior African Championships in Bambous over 400 and 800 meters. A year later she first took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and was eliminated there with 57.51 s in the first round. At the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju , South Korea , she was eliminated in the semifinals with 57.13 seconds and was fifth with the Ugandan 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 45.40 minutes. At the African Championships in Durban she was eliminated over 800 meters in the preliminary run, but qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 2: 00.63 minutes . In 2017 she won the silver medal behind Moroccan Malika Akkaoui at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in 2: 01.60 minutes . In addition, she was eliminated from the World Championships in London with 2: 01.74 min in the semifinals .

In 2018 she took part again in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast and was eliminated there with 2: 01.69 minutes in advance. In addition, she was eighth in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 35.03 min. In August she finished fourth at the African Championships in Asaba in 1: 58.90 minutes. The following year she ran at the Africa Games in Rabat in 2: 03.55 minutes over 800 meters behind the Ethiopian Hirut Meshesha and Rababe Arafi from Morocco in third place. At the end of September she surprisingly won gold at the World Championships in Doha by improving her national record to 1: 58.04 min.

In 2014 and 2019 Nakaayi was Ugandan champion in the 4 x 400 meter relay and in 2019 also in the 800 meter run.
