Lilia Foatovna Nurutdinova

Lilija Foatowna Nurutdinova ( Russian Лилия Фоатовна Нурутдинова , English transcription Liliya Nurutdinova ; born December 15, 1963 in Naberezhnye Tschelny ) is a former Russian middle-distance runner who competed for the Soviet Union until 1991 and for the Commonwealth of Independent States in 1992.

At the European Championships in Split in 1990 , she finished third in the 800 meter run in 1: 57.39 minutes behind the two GDR runners Sigrun Wodars and Christine Wachtel .

In 1991 Lilija Nurutdinova won gold in an extremely close decision at the World Championships in Tokyo . She won in 1: 57.50 minutes ahead of Ana Fidelia Quirot (CUB) in 1:57:55 minutes and Ella Kovacs (ROM) in 1: 57.58 minutes. Maria de Lurdes Mutola (MOZ) was fourth in 1: 57.63 min.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , Nurutdinova won the silver medal in 1: 55.99 minutes behind Ellen van Langen (NED) in 1: 55.54 minutes and ahead of Ana Fidelia Quirot in 1: 56.80 minutes. In the 4 x 400 meter relay of the CIS Lilija Nurutdinova was used in the lead. In the final four other runners won, but since she had started in the preliminary run, Nurutdinova also received a gold medal.

In 1993 she was convicted of doping and banned for four years; that ended her sports career. With a height of 1.74 m, her competition weight was 52 kg.
