Natalija Oleksijiwna Lupu ( Ukrainian Наталія Олексіївна Лупу , English transcription Nataliya Lupu; born November 4, 1987 in Marschynzi ) is a Ukrainian middle -distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter distance and because of her sprinting strength also in the 4-time 400 meter relay is used.

Athletic career

In 2009 Lupu reached the semi-finals at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Turin and was eliminated from the preliminary stages at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin .

In 2010 she did not get past the first round at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Doha and at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona . At the Indoor European Championships 2011 she was eliminated in the semi-finals over 800 m and was sixth in the Ukrainian 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 2012 Lupu won silver at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul and reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in London . The following year she won the 2013 European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg and finished seventh at the World Championships in Moscow .

At the 2014 Indoor World Championships in Sopot, Lupu finished fifth, but tested positive for methylhexanamine and was banned for nine months for this violation of doping regulations .

At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, Lupu took sixth place in the 800-meter run and the 4-by-400-meter relay .

Shortly before the 2016 World Indoor Championships , Lupu tested positive for meldonium . Nevertheless, she was able to start at the European Championships in Amsterdam in July 2016 and made it to the semi-finals there. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she was eliminated in the semifinals . Finally, Lupu was banned for eight years until December 26, 2024 and also disqualified for the 2016 Olympic Games .
