Selina Büchel (born July 26, 1991 in Mosnang ) is a Swiss athlete . Her specialty is the 800 meter distance .

Athletic career

Büchel is a six-time Swiss champion and represented Switzerland at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich , where she reached the semi-finals. At the 2014 Indoor World Championships in Sopot , Poland , she won her preliminary run in a new personal indoor best of 2: 00.93 min. In the final she surprised again and finished fourth in 2: 01.06 min.

Her greatest successes to date are winning gold medals twice at the 2015 European Indoor Championships in Prague and at the 2017 European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in the 800-meter run. The winning time in Belgrade of 2: 00.38 minutes meant a new Swiss record in the hall. Previously, on July 4, 2015, she ran the Swiss record of 1: 57.95 minutes outdoors. She replaced Sandra Gasser as the record holder, who ran 1: 58.90 minutes in 1987.

Büchel came fourth at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam . At the 2017 World Championships in London she was eliminated in the semifinals in 1: 59.85 min. out. At the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 2018 , she made it to the final and finished in 6th place. At the European Championships in Berlin in 2018 , she finished seventh.
