Elżbieta Katolik

Elżbieta Katolik (born Skowrońska ; born October 9, 1949 in Warsaw ; † June 28, 1983 in Sieradz ) was a Polish middle -distance runner who specialized in the 800-meter distance .

Athletic career

In 1969 she won silver in the mixed relay with the Polish team at the European Indoor Games in Belgrade , and in 1971 she came fifth in the 4-by-400-meter relay with the Polish relay at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki . At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, she was eliminated both over 800 m and as part of the Polish team in the 4 x 400 meter relay in the preliminary run. In 1973 she won bronze at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Rotterdam and at the Universiade . In 1974 she won the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg and was seventh at the European Championships in Rome . A fourth place at the Indoor European Championships in 1975 in Katowice was followed by another bronze medal at the Indoor European Championships in 1977 in San Sebastián. In 1980 she was fourth at the European Indoor Championships in Sindelfingen . At the Olympic Games in Moscow she reached the semi-finals in the individual competition and came in sixth place in the 4 x 400 meter relay with the Polish quartet.

She was Polish champion three times in the 800 m (1971, 1975, 1976), once in the 400 m (1969) and twice in the 400-meter hurdles (1977, 1979). In the hall she won six national titles over 800 m (1973, 1974, 1976, 1978-1980) and once over 400 m (1977).

Elżbieta Katolik died in a traffic accident at the age of 33.
